Jefferson County Family Court Probation Services

Brief Description: Jefferson County Family Court will host town hall meetings/forum at two local high schools to distribute the Shatter the Myths booklet, addressing the facts of drug abuse, impact on family/community, and the science of addiction. A doctor will be on the panel of guest speakers to have an open dialog with the attendees (children and parents).

Brief Description: Prescription Drug Abuse Summit, Tuesday, January 29, 2013, 10am to 2pm, Bishop State Community College Auditorium, Mobile, Alabama. Ray Jacobs (1st) Battalion Young Marine

Brief Description: On October 20, the Ray Jacobs (1st) Battalion Young Marines will video a youth drug demand reduction education demonstration on the steps of the Capitol building in Sacramento, CA. This will be held approximately at 12 p.m. An encore performance will be scheduled during the required time frame of January 28 through February 3, 2013. The battalion includes nine units from Frazier Park in Kern County to Lassen County and over the SF Bay Area. We expect approximately 100 Young Marines (ages 8 through 17). These youth will all be wearing red Young Marine tee shirts and will form a huge red ribbon. Several assembly persons, senators, city council members, boards of supervisors and law enforcement personnel from each of the above named communities are also expected to participate. Our video will be sent to the Young Marines National Headquarters in Washington, D. C. (att. Ms. Janelle Johnsen) for broadcast on the Young Marines News Network with National Executive Director, Lt. Col. Mike Kessler, USMC (ret).

Temecula Valley Young Marines

Brief Description: Flyer/ Handout Event at Lake Elsinore Outlet Mall. We train in a suite at the mall. The Young Marines will set up a table outside our suite with STM and the Nat'l Drug IQ Challenge and talk to parents and kids as they walk through the mall. They will do a true/ false game and hand out small prizes if the correct response is given. If an incorrect response is given, they will give them the correct information and a small prize. Everyone wins!

Students will make posters about various drug facts to display in the commons area of the school. On the last day of Drug Facts Week, Drug Fact teams will compete in a Drug Facts Quiz Bowl.

Brief Description: Students at Lanai High School will be working with the Hawaii Meth Project to host a "Lanai No Meth Around" Day. This day will include an all-school assembly, where students can present the dangers of Meth to their peers, and an after-school sign wave to show the community that the students care about this issue. Brief Description: Host an addiction and resolution assembly. Former alumni of the North Lawrence School system will be invited to share their personal experiences and life lessons with teens, as well as a respected local physician. The resolutions will be asked for by the end of the assembly and duplications will be shared with a partner of their choice in the following 3 areas - one pledge concerning academics (i.e. raise an average in a specific subject by 20%, complete all homework assigned, etc.), one pledge concerning life skills (i.e. wake up earlier to avoid rushing, look for a job, etc.), and one pledge concerning physical fitness(i.e. walk 10,000 steps daily; eat 2 servings of vegetables daily, etc.). This assembly will emphasize the dangers of addiction and help students recognize the power of change that is within themselves.

Brief Description: We are holding a town hall meeting for all of the Wichita Mayor's Youth Council Students, parents and other friends and family members who wish to attend. Dhi Youth Movement

Brief Description: Drug talks is an event designed for a target group of youth, aged 18 to 24, to come together for an honest conversation about drugs. The aim of this event is to gather a youth group with an expert on drugs, a recovering addict and other important figures of the community in an aspiration to initiate dialogue and to eliminate taboo related to this topic. This is an initiative by the Trustees of the Maldives who have attended the Training for trusteeship, 2012 in Sri Lanka which was an event held by Weeramantary International Center for Peace Education and Research in support of The World Future Council, UNESCO and some other research institutes and organizations. These Trustees are part of a bigger youth movement, Dhi Youth Movement which advocates for youth empowerment. The trustees are experienced members who have received training from various National and international programs, summits and conferences all over the world, and have closely worked with various UN offices established in Male', and most importantly with the NGOs and individuals in the recovering and current community of drug addicts. This 7 day event would be, as suggested, a conversation about drugs. It is essentially a workshop model focused on 30 different individuals. The program would consist of expert lectures, group discussions, dialogue with a representative from the recovering community, and training these individuals to carry forward what they would learn from the workshop to others in their community. This workshop is designed in such a way that the participants would be gathering for a learning experience through fun activities, group work and interactive discussions.
